Owego is a small town located on the Susquehanna River. The name is derived from the Iroquois word Ahwaga, meaning where the valley widens. The town was first settled around 1786 and is one of the earliest colonial settlements in the region. Owego is a wonderful place to visit. The Village of Owego shopping district is packed with unique shops and restaurants. You can stroll through parks and admire the scenic beauty and wildlife of the river on the Owego Riverwalk.

For over 40 years, the Tioga Arts Council (TAC) has enriched the cultural lives of Tioga County’s residents and visitors. Located in the shopping district of the Village of Owego, TAC is a central platform for a flourishing arts community. Their gallery is open to the public and exhibitions change monthly. Visitors are encouraged to stop in to see (and buy!) artwork created by local artists.

Ti-Ahwaga Community Players Performing Arts Center

The Performing Arts Center is home to the Ti-Ahwaga Community Players, a local group of actors and theatre-lovers who have earned the distinction of being one of Upstate New York’s oldest, continuously-active community theatre groups. Each season, they produce and present five plays in the 156 seat cabaret-style performing arts center which boasts wonderful acoustics, a state-of-the-art sound system and light refreshments, including beer and wine, for sale. Ti-Ahwaga is dedicated to educating local youths and regularly cast young people from the area in their productions and offer student workshops.
