Art Exhibition “A World Split Open”
March 6 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Tioga Arts Council (TAC) is pleased to announce its 2020 March exhibition, “The World Split Open: Artistic Responses to the Women’s Rights Movement & Its Legacy.”
The title is adapted from the poem “Käthe Kollwitz” by Muriel Rukeyser. What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open.
This poem not only celebrates an important female artist and activist, Käthe Kollwitz, but it also acknowledges the need to tell truths, to share stories, and to make art in order to change the world. Channeling this spirit, TAC put out a call for submissions and artists across the Southern Tier responded.
The exhibition will open on First Friday, March 6, 2020, from 5 – 8 p.m. at 179 Front Street and at the Tourism Office, 200-204 Front Street, Owego. On Thursday, March 19, we will also host a free Artist Panel at 7 p.m. at TAC. There, you can meet some of the contributing artists, learn about their work, and ask questions.
The exhibition will be open on March 6 – 28, Tues. – Sat., 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. or by appointment. Join us this March, discover truths, and see the world split open.
