In Need of a Little Rest and Relaxation!?

Looking for a quiet get away that is close to home? Look no further than The Belva Lockwood Inn, located in the Village of Owego! The Belva Lockwood Inn is a beautifully resorted residence that has taken many forms over the years. This historic inn is one of the newest lodging options for people traveling to Tioga County and the Finger Lakes region. The Inn is just a few blocks from the center of downtown, so it is  centrally located making it really easy to get around without using your car or public transportation.

Cocktail Hour.

I can’t think of a better way to unwind and get into a relaxed mood. I invited a few friends to meet me at the inn before going out to dinner. We chatted with the owners and caught up over a few drinks. When I travel I love having the option of having a couple of glasses of wine after getting settled in. It certainly sets the stage for a wonderful evening!

Insider Tip: Make sure you that you inform the BLI staff that you want to have a happy hour at the bar when making your room reservation.

Amenities & Rooms.

Let’s talk about the rooms and the amenities for a minute. Each room has a different vibe and concept either rooted in the history of the property or some relevance to the local region. I stayed in the Eagles room; Named in reference to the Fraternal Order of the Eagle who once resided on the property. The Knickerbocker room, pictured below, on the other hand, is named after local artist Chris Knickerbocker. She has some really interesting works in the local galleries downtown, and in the room itself she crafted a beautiful instillation completely made of glass. All of the rooms are equipped with full bathrooms, cozy bathrobes, and very comfy beds.

The Best Part of Waking Up…

Is that you can get a breakfast basket with a variety of healthy food inside! The basket includes your coffee, some fresh fruit, and yogurt with granola. You can customize the contents of your basket and have it arrive at anytime you need to wake up in the morning.

Cellar Restaurant.

When I get together with my friends we love to enjoy great food, dry wines, and more than a couple laughs. Tonight we decided to go out to the Cellar Restaurant located in downtown Owego, right on Front Street. They have everything from seafood and steaks to burgers and salads. Great ambiance and the menu is set at a very reasonable price!

Farmhouse Brewery.

After dinner we walked over to the local brewery just a few steps away over on Lake Street. The Farmhouse Brewery has over 21 beers on tap with a variety of flavors ranging from lighter beers to barrel-aged sours. You can order flights if you to want sample the menu, or just order by the glass if you’re already a regular. I recommend trying “Crazy Daisy,” if you’re like me you enjoy stronger hoppy beers. All of their beers can be put in a growler for you to take away and enjoy at home. They also serve local wines, sodas, and small snacks like meat and cheese from local farms!

Looking for health and wellness?

Take a class at the new pilates studio downtown! I found the instructor, Kathryn, to be very knowledgeable and engaging. The studio also has some cool items for sale such as CBD oils and Lulu Lemon active clothing. We took a beginners mat class so it was very approachable. I am glad I woke up and took the time to work on my self care, definitely coming back again!

Gettin’ Hygge With It!

There are a lot of cool places to shop in Owego, but one of my NEW favorite places to go is Hygge Home. The concept of Hygge is the “art” of cozy, and owner Mandy has certainly nailed that aesthetic! The inventory is constantly changing, and is set a reasonable price point. This place has a really great vibe, cool things for the home, and of course a cozy atmosphere!

Boutique Jewelry Shop.

Like many of the wonderful shops in Owego, Van Horn’s Jewelers is a family owned full-service operation built on customer service as the cornerstone of their mission. There is a wide selection of jewelry ranging in prices for many different tastes and types of people. Local artist Michael Husted is their resident jeweler. He forges beautiful custom jewelry for his clients.

A Wonderful, Make Do Life!

Another really cool shop that has recently opened in the Village of Owego is Rusty & Jewel. The owner of the store, Lisa, is a local artist who specialized in custom jewelry and items for the home made from reclaimed and found items. I was basically obsessed with most of the things in the store from the moment I walked through the door! This is one of those shops that you want to start your shopping trip at because there are so many wonderful things to discover!

Love it Like a Local!

Being a local to the area, it was amazing to have the chance to unwind in my own backyard. Even though I am pretty familiar with Owego and the downtown area it’s great to relax and look at the village through a new perspective. Make it a priority to take the night off of your busy schedule, and book a room at the Belva Lockwood Inn. You will discover that this charming town has more than meets the eye. Not only is there a lot to do downtown, but the hospitality at the Inn is first class and inviting. I spent 24 hours and less than $500 on this mini staycation, but I went back to work feeling refreshed and centered. The Belva Lockwood Inn is a great home-base whether you want to explore the Village of Owego, or the Finger Lakes region!
