Established in 1851, Evergreen Cemetery is historically significant as an outstanding example of the settlement period of the Village of Owego. The landscape is tiered and contoured, with old-growth trees and multiple brooks that make it a beautiful natural setting for the varied grave markers, ranging from grand to austere. Within Evergreen Cemetery, there are several points of interest, including the SaSaNa Loft Monument at the highest point in the cemetery affording a stunning view of the Village and Susquehanna River, as well as a Civil War section, one of the longest epitaphs in the country, and graves of notable Americans.
